About the Role

 

As a Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support Caseworker you will provide a high quality caseworker service to Trafford residents, partners and internal and external stakeholders in relation to Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support related matters.  You will act as a key single point of contact to residents, partner agencies and stakeholders from the initial identification/contact until resolution of the matters raised.  You will deal with complex matters of Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support including investigating and responding to Councillor and MP queries, stage one complaints and providing statement of reasons for decisions.  In addition you will support managers in subsidy, specified and supported accommodation matters as well as liaise with the Department of Work and Pensions, external subsidy auditors, Valuation Tribunal and Tribunal Appeal Service and stakeholders such as Community Hubs and Housing Associations. 

 

This will be a hybrid post in which the post holder can work from home and/or the office. However, the post holder will be expected to undertake home visits, meet customers and/or stakeholders as well as attend relevant tribunals  across the borough, acting as the role model for the Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support service.  

 

We’re looking for people who are experts in Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support and who will instil confidence for the Council’s internal and external customers as a professional and knowledgeable service which puts customers at the heart of what we do.

About you

You will be IRRV qualified (Full/Tech/Apprenticeship) or have the relevant working knowledge and experience of a Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support service, as well as a willingness to obtain the IRRV qualification.  You will have at least 2 years work experience in a Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support environment, with up to date knowledge, including making discretionary decisions, and experience of delivering a difficult outcome to residents in a professional, sensitive but assertive manner.

Additional Information

A DBS check will be required.

You will have flexibility in terms of hybrid working at home and in the office and you will be expected to complete visits across the Borough.
