About us

Trafford Council and its partners in the public, private and third sectors are embarking on a Vision which sees us working together to close inequality gaps and maximise Trafford’s huge potential. Our vision is working together to build the best future for all our communities and everyone in Trafford

Trafford really is a great place to work. With a positive permission culture, we embrace innovation and encourage performance. We’re keen to recruit someone with the right values and behaviours that can help us ensure our workplace values are at the heart of everything we do

Two valued members of our team will shortly be taking maternity leave and in order to continue to provide the high level of service that our schools, LA and other partners currently receive we need to recruit two Educational Psychologists to bring us back up to full capacity.

Trafford EPS is a small, friendly team of Educational Psychologists. We apply a consultation model to support children, families and schools and there is a strong commitment to person-centered approaches and co-production. We also have a strong commitment to social justice and anti-discriminatory practice within our team.

About you

You will be a fully qualified Educational Psychologist looking for an opportunity to apply your skills to make a difference to the lives of children and young people in Trafford. You may not be in a position, or ready to take on the commitment of a full time post and would welcome the flexibility that these opportunities offer.

Applicants for these posts are required to have a psychology degree and a professional qualification in Educational Psychology and registration with the HCPC.

About the Role

As an Educational Psychologist stepping-in to provide maternity cover you will be supporting a patch of schools made up of primary, secondary and special. We endeavor to ensure a good fit between EPs and the schools they support.

Trafford LA operates a fully traded model of service delivery and school’s buy in Service Level Agreements (SLAs) at the start of the academic year, typically 30 hours for a primary school and 60 hours for a secondary although some schools may buy more and they can also purchase 10 hour top ups if required. Work in schools is a combination of consultation, assessment, and training; some Educational Psychologists have also developed therapeutic work in their schools.

In addition to SLA time, all Educational Psychologists provide statutory advice for Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) needs assessments.

All Educational Psychologists are provided with a laptop, phone and assessment kit. We work a flexible model of home working, work in schools and office visits. We have significantly increased our skills in the use of ICT and most of the team are confident and competent in using video conferencing for the purpose of consultations and training etc.
